Many have been wondering what really is Metaverse or Meta.
The confusion occurred when one day it was announced that Facebook is now Meta. It can also be seen that Messenger, Instagram, and even WhatsApp are now powered by Meta.
Metaverse is actually just a commercial enterprise. But why do big firms are competing to produce the best metaverse offers? Just like Facebook as mentioned above, companies like Google, Apple, and Microsoft are also in this competition offering their own respective metaverse system. No one is able to define what Metaverse is. It is safe to say that what it is and how it works are still being determined.
The metaverse is a vision of the future digital world. The goal is to make everything seamless online for everyone’s convenience. It is expected to improve online transactions and one’s every move on the internet.
There are so many claims that surfaced on the internet about the metaverse.
Some say that it basically just an integration of the real world and the virtual world.It is more like when we wear VR headsets and enter into the virtual world. Others say that each person will be given a digital identity in a form of a microchip hidden under their skin, or an avatar of themselves for their digital ID. Others also said that in the metaverse, no one can cheat as everything is already connected like passwords.
But is this really possible? It might be. But the real challenge would be in the execution and regulation, in which the government will surely play a key role. They need to have a better understanding or knowledge of the technology. Just thinking about all of those things that the government needs to do will put us to the conclusion that it might take another century to experience the metaverse. It might even create chaos in the society. It should be expected that not all of us in the world came in ready for its change just like when we are experiencing natural disasters or calamities. Most of the time we felt ambushed by those tragedies. And that is why, up to this time, there is still no certainty about the metaverse.
In the meantime, only one thing is sure. The metaverse remains a business until the visioned metaverse is designed.
