Hydro Mining Radiators & Cooling Systems | Lianli Equipment

External heat rejection and coolant management equipment for hydro-cooled ASIC mining operations. This category includes Lianli radiators, CDUs (Coolant Distribution Units), and the Lianli 28-unit cooling cabinet system designed to support up to 28 hydro-cooled miners in a single integrated infrastructure. Hydro miners generate significant heat that must be dissipated through external radiators or dry coolers. The cooling loop circulates a water-glycol mixture through the miner's heat exchangers, absorbs the thermal load, and transfers it to these external units for rejection. Proper radiator sizing depends on the total wattage of your hydro fleet and the ambient temperature at your facility. Lianli (Dongguan Lian Li Electronics Technology) is a specialist manufacturer of liquid cooling solutions for data centers and mining operations. Contact the team for sizing guidance, pricing, and compatibility with your hydro miner fleet.

The Radiator: The Most Critical Component in Any Hydro Cooling Loop

A hydro-cooled ASIC mining system is only as effective as its ability to reject heat to the environment. The radiator — also referred to as a dry cooler, external heat exchanger, or CDU radiator — is the final stage of the cooling loop: it takes the heat absorbed from your ASIC miners and transfers it into the surrounding air. Undersizing the radiator is the single most common mistake in DIY hydro setups, and the one most likely to cause premature hardware failure or thermal throttling.

How It Works

The Role of the Radiator in a Hydro Mining Cooling Loop

In cold climates (ambient below ~15°C), the temperature differential between the heated coolant and the outdoor air is large enough that the fans can run at minimal speed — or in true cold climates, at near-zero power — and still achieve adequate heat rejection. This is called "free cooling" and represents one of the most significant economic advantages of hydro mining in northern Europe: effective PUE can approach 1.0 during winter months.

The radiator is sized in kilowatts of cooling capacity at a given ambient temperature. A common oversizing rule is to select a radiator rated at 120% of your total ASIC power draw — for example, a 12 kW radiator for a setup drawing 10 kW total. This headroom accounts for higher ambient temperatures in summer, any flow inefficiencies, and future capacity expansion.

Where Radiators Are Used

Ba bối cảnh triển khai cho bộ tản nhiệt thủy lực

Hydro radiators serve different roles depending on your system configuration — from standalone single-machine setups to rack-scale CDU infrastructure.

Standalone Hydro ASIC Setups

Typical radiator size

50–85 kW

Hydro-Compatible Rack Cabinets

Some enclosed rack cabinets are designed for hydro-compatible ASIC miners and include an integrated radiator inside the cabinet enclosure, rejecting heat through a rear duct or overhead plenum. This creates a fully enclosed, near-silent hydro mining unit. An external radiator is still required for larger cabinet configurations where the internal heat exchanger cannot handle the full thermal load — particularly for 10+ machine cabinets in warmer ambient conditions.

Typical radiator size

10–30 kW (supplemental)

FAQ

Common Questions About Hydro Radiators

A mining radiator (dry cooler) is an outdoor heat exchanger that rejects heat from a hydro cooling loop into the ambient air. It is the final stage of heat rejection in any hydro-cooled ASIC mining setup — essential for keeping coolant temperatures within operating range.

Start with your total ASIC power draw: three Antminer S21 Hydro at 5.5 kW each = 16.5 kW heat load. Select a radiator rated at 120-130% of that figure (20-22 kW). For hot climates (35C+), increase to 140-150%. Contact us with your miner count and site location for exact sizing.

The CDU circulates coolant through your miners, then routes heated coolant to the radiator for heat rejection. The radiator returns cooled fluid to the CDU, completing the loop. CDU and radiator must be matched for flow rate and thermal capacity. Browse our mining equipment for compatible CDU options.

Bitmain radiators are designed specifically for their Hydro miner ecosystem with guaranteed compatibility. Third-party dry coolers often offer higher capacity and better value at larger scales. Both work with standard hydro fittings. Contact us for recommendations based on your fleet size.

Small radiators (4.5-12 kW) can operate indoors with adequate ventilation — the radiator exhausts hot air into the room. Larger units (20 kW+) should be outdoors or in dedicated mechanical spaces. Outdoor installation requires glycol coolant to prevent freezing in cold conditions.

Radiator noise depends on size and fan speed. Small units (4.5-12 kW) produce 45-55 dB. Large industrial dry coolers (50+ kW) can reach 60-70 dB at full speed. Variable-speed fan controllers reduce noise during cooler ambient conditions. For noise-sensitive sites, contact us for low-noise options.

Clean radiator fins seasonally to remove dust and debris that reduce airflow efficiency. Check fan operation quarterly. Inspect hose connections for leaks. Test coolant chemistry every 3-6 months. Well-maintained radiators operate reliably for 10+ years. See our FAQ for detailed schedules.

Radiators are compatible with any hydro mining system that uses standard water/glycol coolant loops — including all Bitmain Antminer Hydro models. The key is matching thermal capacity (kW rating) and coolant flow rate to your setup. Contact us to confirm compatibility with your specific miners.

Radiator fan power is typically 1-5% of the total mining power draw. A 20 kW radiator may use 200-500W for its fans. Variable-speed controllers reduce consumption in cool weather. This is significantly less than air-cooled ASIC fan power, contributing to hydro cooling's superior PUE.

For indoor setups where ambient temperature stays above 5C, use deionised water with corrosion inhibitor. For outdoor radiators or cold climates, use water-propylene glycol mix — 30% glycol for protection to -15C, 40% for -25C. We stock both corrosion inhibitor and premixed glycol coolant.

Radiator capacity depends on the temperature differential between coolant and ambient air. In hot weather (35C+), effective capacity drops 20-30%. In cold weather, radiators achieve "free cooling" with minimal fan power. Size your radiator for worst-case summer conditions to ensure year-round performance.

For mission-critical operations with 10+ hydro miners, redundant radiators are recommended. If a single radiator fails, your miners will overheat within minutes. Dual radiators with automatic failover protect your fleet. Contact us for redundant cooling system design.

Mount radiators with unrestricted intake and exhaust clearance — typically 1-2 metres minimum on all sides. Avoid recirculation where hot exhaust air feeds back into the intake. Wall-mounted units should exhaust away from the building. Multiple radiators should be spaced to prevent thermal interference.

Quality dry coolers use copper or aluminium fin-and-tube construction with corrosion-resistant coatings. Stainless steel fittings prevent galvanic corrosion. For coastal or high-humidity environments, specify marine-grade coatings. Proper coolant chemistry (corrosion inhibitor) protects internal loop surfaces.

Well-maintained radiators last 10-15+ years. Fan motors are typically the first component to need replacement (5-8 years). Fins and tubing are durable if coolant chemistry is maintained. Regular cleaning and corrosion inhibitor replenishment extend operational life significantly.

Many modern CDUs include temperature and flow monitoring with remote access. Adding inline temperature sensors and flow meters to your radiator loop provides real-time performance data. For hosted setups, our monitoring dashboard tracks cooling system health continuously.
